Our staff understand that trust is earned and we recognize that if you are new to receiving massage or bodywork it can be a bit intimidating.
We will work closely with you and check in often during your sessions. We encourage our clients to advocate for themselves and to be open and honest in what they are experiencing during their massage.
H&B was founded on the belief that ineffective communication and a lack of compassionate physical contact is at the root of many of our individual and collective ills.
Our staff is committed to combating both. We want to get to know you and become a partner in your efforts to enhance your holistic wellbeing.
We will encourage you to speak your truth and in turn we will be honest and authentic with you regarding our services.
Here at H&B Bodyworks and Wellness, we recognize that people come from all sorts of faith-based backgrounds, and we want you to know that you are welcome here.
The staff at H&B Bodyworks is willing to modify our services to accommodate faith-based clothing requirements of our Muslim, Mormon and Sikh community members.
We want to understand your ways, so you can get the care you need.
Massage is a tool to help heal. Whether it's stress, recovering from injury / illness or simply to pamper yourself, the benefits of regular massage can be life changing.
We believe that what effects the mind can have a profound effect on the body and vice versa. Here at H&B we want to support you in your efforts to care for both.
It is a journey and
we would be honored to take that journey with you.
Deep Tissue Massage reaches deeper layers of muscles. It is used to break down knots and relieve pressure points throughout the body. This massage is beneficial for athletes and those who sit for long periods of time.
The goal of Swedish Massage is to melt away muscle tension and increase the blood flow to your heart. Swedish Massage is extremely therapeutic as it decreases muscle toxins, increases oxygen levels in the blood, and improves flexibility in the body.
Post-Surgical Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle yet powerful form of bodywork that is intended to stimulate and encourage the natural movement of the lymph, which reduces swelling and carries metabolic waste away from the surgery site.
Hot Stone Massage is often paired with Swedish Massage. Smooth stones made from volcanic basalt are heated and used with oils to sooth, warm, and massage your muscles. This allows your body to relax and release tension and stress.
Exfoliation Massage helps your skin shed dead skin cells and stimulates circulation. This aids your skin in maintaining a smooth, healthy & youthful appearance. Some clients also report it helps them relax deeper during the massage portion of the session.
H&B Bodyworks and Wellness is currently able to accept Blue Cross / Blue Shield of Oregon, Cigna, Moda Health, Providence, PacificSource and United Healthcare Insurances. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept Oregon Health Plan (OHP) coverage. We can also accept payments from health savings account debit cards which many employers offer. Please follow us on our Facebook page for insurance updates.
Chair massage is a type of massage therapy that is performed on a client while they are in a seated position in a specialized massage chair. Clients can remain clothed during this session, as most techniques can be applied through thin clothing. Chair massage sessions are great for people with busy schedules or those just seeking some focused work on a problem area. Chair massage techniques primarily address the neck, shoulders and upper back.
Whether it be Deep Tissue or Swedish Massage, we recognize our therapists often use a combination of both modalities to provide a high-quality massage. The goal of H&B Bodywork is to improve your physical and mental wellbeing, and this will often require a blend of modalities or techniques. Our sessions have one price structure, and we are committed to keeping things simple.
This is a 60-minute hands on massage. We encourage you to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled session time so that you can be on the table for the entire massage session.
This is a 90-minute hands on massage. It's quite amazing what our therapists can do with an extra 30 minutes! We encourage you to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled session time so that you can be on the table for the entire massage session.
A hot stone massage is a type of massage therapy. It’s used to help you relax and ease tense muscles and damaged soft tissues throughout your body.
During a hot stone massage, smooth, flat, heated stones usually made of basalt are placed on specific parts of your body or the therapist may use them as a massage tool to work a problematic area of muscle tension. The smooth volcanic rock retains heat and can have a profound effect on really tight muscle fibers.
Your therapist will use a pumice stone to gently exfoliate your skin for the first 30 minutes of the session and then this is followed by a 60-minute massage. You can provide your own pumice stone, or we have them for $8. It is yours to keep or we can store it here for you.
Exfoliation helps your skin shed dead skin cells and stimulates circulation. This aids your skin in maintaining a smooth, healthy & youthful appearance. Some clients also report it helps them relax deeper during the massage!
Want to treat your someone special to something special?
H&B offers 90-minute couples massage packages! Our therapists will work on you side by side with your partner or a friend. We set up two tables in one room. This is a great way to relax together or support a friend or partner who may have the first massage jitters.
Please call our reservation desk at (541) 653-9340 to schedule! Booking a couple's session online will not work, as we have to consider multiple therapists schedules.
This is a 60-minute hands on massage focused on the area around a surgical site. Post-surgical Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a technique based on gentle, rhythmic and constant movements that mimic the natural rhythm of the body’s lymphatic system. During a post-surgical manual lymphatic session, the therapist gently massages the lymph nodes and then guides post-surgical edema towards those correlating lymph nodes, so it can be processed more efficiently and removed from your body.
If you wish to have your therapist, use a CBD or Menthol salve during your session to treat a problematic area then we do charge a small fee to cover the high cost of these products.
Your time at H&B Bodywork and Wellness is reserved exclusively for you. We value your business and ask that you respect the office scheduling policies. Should you need to cancel or reschedule, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance. Any cancellations with less than 24 hours of notice are subject to a late cancellation fee of $50.
We recognize the time of our clients and staff is valuable and have implemented this policy for this reason. When you miss an appointment with us, our therapists not only lose your business, but also the potential business of other clients who could have been scheduled in that time slot. Our staff often function on an “on-call” basis and may have traveled to the H&B studio specifically to provide the service you scheduled. For this reason, we are obligated to compensate our staff for their time.
All treatment sessions have a specific time allotted on the schedule; therefore, we regret that late arrivals may not receive an extension of their scheduled session time. In special cases, and when our schedule allows, we may be able to accommodate the original full session time. This is at our discretion and only with proper advanced notification of your late arrival. The original session cost will be charged regardless of our ability to accommodate an extension.
At H&B Bodywork and Wellness, we understand that unanticipated events occur in everyone’s life. Unforeseen events such as car problems, business meetings and children’s illnesses, are just a few reasons why one might consider canceling an appointment with one of our therapists. However, we ask that you call if you cannot keep your appointment. Clients who miss their appointments without giving any prior notification will be charged for the full cost of the scheduled service.
Here at H&B Bodyworks we often get asked by clients "how often should I come in?"
The therapeutic benefits of massage are maximized if you receive it on a regular basis, ideally every couple of weeks. This assists your body in maintaining a healthy level of circulation, aids in reducing stress and keeps the formation of adhesions and knots in and around your muscles to a minimum. There are several causes for the buildup of the "crunchy" knots most of us have experienced. It may be from overuse, micro damage to the muscle fibers or the buildup of naturally occurring metabolic wastes. Regular massage can help address all of these issues.
If we are focusing on the rehabilitation of a specific injury, then your therapist may want to work on you for several weeks in a row.
Another frequent question that is asked is which is better 60 or 90 minute sessions. Without a doubt it's the 90's. This is for a couple of reasons. First being that most of us are pretty harried when we are running to and fro in our day-to-day chaos. It often takes a bit of "unwind time" after coming through the H&B studio door before clients can start to relax. Also, if you are brand new to the world of massage there is a bit of coaching that may be needed to explain the process and answer any questions that you may have.
Therapists prefer 90-minute sessions as well. This is because most massage therapists have what is frequently referred to as a "foundation routine". Which is essentially a basic template of how we work on a client. This is then adjusted to focus on specific problematic areas we might discover or to accommodate specific client requests. For a full body massage a typical foundation routine is about 45 to 50 minutes. However, if we come across a particular "crunchy" spot or a client wants a little extra time on an area, we often have to cut something else out to stay on schedule. That extra 30 minutes, gives us a bit of wiggle room to spend some extra time on an area without you missing out on some other part of the experience.
H&B Bodyworks is located at 245 W. 13th Ave in Eugene, Oregon. We are the blue house with the big porch on the north side of 13th Ave between Lincoln and Charnelton streets. Parking for our clients is either on Charnelton or Lincoln streets and it is about 1/2 a block walk to the studio.
Please do not park in the little lot next to our building or in the large lot to the north of our building. Unfortunately, you are likely to be towed if you park in these areas.
We always encourage people to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your appointment time, especially if it is your first visit with us. There is a quite a bit of new client paperwork to tackle and we don't want you to miss out on time you could be on the table. It is important that a massage therapist knows about your medical history and any medications you may be on. There are certain medical conditions and medications that we may need to adjust some of the techniques we use. Pain medications, nerve blockers and blood pressure medications are some examples. Even if you are a regular client, getting here early can make a big difference in your session experience as you have a few minutes to take some deep breaths and "wind down" before getting on the table.
The answer to that is no. The idea of being naked or almost naked in a room with someone you met 5 minutes ago freaks just about everybody out. In massage training we actually spend a lot of time learning how to do some fancy sheet work, so all your personal bits stay covered throughout the entire session. We will welcome you into the massage room, talk with you a bit about medical history and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. We then step out and you can get undressed to your level of comfort. Some people are quite comfortable being naked, others leave on their underwear or wear athletic shorts. You then get yourself situated on the table and cover up with a sheet and a blanket. We only uncover the part of your body we are working on. For general relaxation massages your chest area and your abdomen will not be worked on. Depending on the issues you have going on, a massage therapist may need to work on your glutes or around the top portion of your sacrum. However, there will be quite a bit of discussion before this happens and it will most likely not be during your first session with us. Remember this is your session and your comfort level and your consent are of the utmost importance to any respectable massage therapist or studio.
We recognize that there are probably a million "what if?" questions that run through our heads when we try anything new. Receiving your first professional massage is no exception. So, here are a few answers to the common "what if's";
"What if I have to use the restroom during the session?"
Just let your therapist know. We will step out and there are clean client robes hanging behind each of the massage room doors. We'll just take a break.
"What if I become aroused during the session?"
This is not uncommon and nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. Your massage therapist is just going to ignore it. Just know that H&B Bodyworks is an inclusive, therapeutic massage studio and there are some services we just don't offer.
"Will I be able to take a shower after?"
We do not have client showers here at H&B. We do make up some extra warm towels though that you are welcome to use if you need to wipe off any extra oil at the end of the session.
"Do you tip a massage therapist? If so, how much?"
Massage therapy has for a long time been an industry where tipping is customary. Our therapists certainly appreciate it, however it is by no means required. The typical massage tip is usually between 10-15%.
"Is it okay to talk during a session or fall asleep?"
Absolutely! Massage therapists try to gauge our level of interaction with the client during a session, off of the client's lead. Some clients love to chat it up for the entire session. Other's will catch up for a bit at the start and then slowly drift away. For some folks this is the only time they are truly able to "unplug" during their week and for 60 or 90 minutes they are GONE.
You do you...
Everyone here at H&B Bodyworks is looking forward to meeting you and becoming an ally in your efforts to enhance and maintain your holistic wellbeing.
